Lasting Powers of Attorney
The document nobody thinks about until the day it is too late to make one.
Why it matters
- If you lose capacity without one, your family cannot simply step in and help.
- They have to apply to the Court of Protection. That takes months and costs considerably more.
- Being married does not give your spouse automatic authority over your affairs.
- There are two types, one for property and finances, one for health and care. Most people need both.
How we do it
- We work out who should act for you, and what they should and should not be able to do.
- We complete and register the forms, which is where most people give up.
- We explain it to your attorneys, so they know what they have agreed to.
- Copies where they are needed, so nobody is hunting for paperwork in a crisis.
Lasting powers of attorney are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
